A LOOK AT THE LIGHTS THAT SHAPE OUR HOME.
We don’t just turn the lights on.
Lighting in our home is less about seeing and more about setting the scene.
We rarely use one light to illuminate the whole apartment. Instead, we have small sources of light spread around the rooms on shelves, next to the sofa, over the dining table, inside furniture.
Each one does something slightly different.
A warm lamp can make a corner feel cosy. A coloured light can completely change the mood. A candle adds just enough glow. And sometimes a light is there simply because we like how it looks.
THE SAME ROOM, DIFFERENT LIGHT.
One of the things we like most about lighting is how quickly it changes a space.
During the day, natural light does most of the work. By evening, we start switching things on usually one at a time.
The apartment gradually gets darker, while certain corners become more visible.
The dining table gets its own light.
The bedroom gets softer.
A cabinet starts glowing from inside.
A red lamp changes the colour of the room.
Nothing else has moved.
The lighting has.
LIGHT IS PART OF THE INTERIOR.
We think about lighting in much the same way we think about furniture or colour.
It can add contrast, highlight a material, bring attention to an object or simply make an otherwise empty corner work.
That is why there are probably more lamps in our home than we actually need.
Some are functional. Some are decorative. Some are both.
And some are there because we saw them and thought: that would look good here.
OUR FAVOURITE PART?
There is no perfect lighting setup.
It changes with the time of day, what we are doing, and sometimes just what we feel like looking at.
A few small lights, a darker room and suddenly the apartment feels completely different.
For us, that is the point.
Lighting isn’t an afterthought. It’s one of the things that makes the interior work.
IN THE END.
We don’t think good lighting has to be complicated. It’s about having a few lights you really like and knowing when to switch them on. For us, that’s what makes a house feel finished not brighter, just better.
